   Information for Visa Applicants Seeking Medical Care in the U.S.

In addition to the general visa requirements, applicants seeking visas for medical care in the United States must present the following:

  • Residence in PNG, Solomon Islands or Vanuatu. Non-residents' applications will rarely be approved.
  • A local doctor's letter describing the applicant's diagnosis and prognosis which includes a detailed medical report as well as a detailed description of the reasons why the applicant cannot be treated in Australia, Indonesia, Japan or other regional countries.
  • An American doctor must provide the same information as the local doctor, using the local doctor's report as the basis for conclusions. In addition, the American doctor must include the estimated cost for the proposed medical treatments (including surgical operations and other special treatments).
  • The patient should demonstrate that he or she has sufficient means to pay for the proposed medical treatments in the United States (medical insurance in the United States, prepayment of estimated costs of the proposed medical treatments, etc.).
  • If the patient has been treated previously in the United States, a letter from the American hospital and/or doctor confirming that all previous bills have been paid.
